Warner Bros brings us another exciting
adventure from the DC universe in the straight to DVD
animated movie: Green Lantern: First Flight. Director
Lauren Montgomery director of Superman Doomsday, and
Wonder Woman adds another great production to his
repertoire , and even thought the Green Lantern does not
have the action, intensity, and storyline, (probably
because I know little about this hero) as the previous
productions, its animation still looks as beautiful and
colorful as Wonder Woman ,and it will with out of doubt
gives you a good amount of laughs. As many if the DC
universe movies this one is fitted for all general
audiences, with the exception of a scene that involving
Bodika, since it does not have any strong material. Green
Lantern: First Flight will be available on DVD and Blue
Ray on July 28 2009.
The movie tells the story of the origin of the EarthLink
Green Lantern, Hal Jordan. When former Green Lantern Abin
Sur is deadly wounded and forced to make an emergency
landing on Earth, he is forced to forfeit his magical ring
to worthiest keeper. In just a few seconds the ring finds
trainee pilot Hal Jordan, and he is transported to Abin
Sur’s presence. Hal receives the ring and becomes the
Green Lantern, kind of a space guardian, of sector 2814.
However, he is first put to a test by the Green Lantern
Corps , since humans are not trust worthy. He is placed
under the surveillance of senior Lantern, Sinestro. In his
training Hal discovers a terrible conspiracy against the
Corps, and all that it stands for, and it is up to him and
his friends to stop it.
As we presence the origin of The Green Lantern and his
Nemesis, we get to see a great display of imaginative
animation, colorful and appealing characters, excellent
voice actors and a share of funny and electrifying
situations. However, the movie fails in delivering a
convincing and engagement story. It is true that is hard
to depict all the Lantern’s mythology in a 77 minutes
movie, nonetheless, previous productions show that it is
possible to show the essentials. I mean, the movie follows
the origin of the hero, granted, it also introduces the
main characters granted again, but story wise it seems to
easy. Hal learns almost instantly how to use his ring,
even before he introduces his hand on the ring’s charger,
the main character lacks human struggle, the plot is also
very predictable with a play out final fight, and for a
superhero movie it lacks action.
The movie does deliver in some comedy though, there are at
least five scenes where the Hal and his comrades will
steal some laughs as they use their rings, also some of
the characters actions are hilarious, specially Killowog.
The cast performance is also great, they add volume to
their character, specially Christopher Melony and Victor
Garber as they depict Hal Jordan and Sinestro
respectively. All the supporting characters also adds
their share to the movie. Over all the movie is mildly
entertaining, it feels like a long episode of the Justice
League, but in my opinion it would not encourages to know
more about the hero. I really believe that this movie will
be more enjoyable for fans of the hero and fans of the DC
characters, however I do not think it is a most have.

SPECIAL FEATURES: As far
as special features the single disk presentation lacks
material. It does not offer any relevant information on the

upcoming and already existing DC movies. In particular I
feel exciting for two of them Superman/Batman: Public
Enemies and The Blackest night.
