The latest installment in
Lionsgate’s new series – The Meridian Collection, a
compilation of acclaimed, groundbreaking and influential
films from around the world – arrives this October with the
stirring Spanish drama Mondays in the Sun. Through The
Meridian Collection, Lionsgate will present significant
works of world cinema in elite quality editions of the
highest technical standards that celebrate their creative
impact.
Mondays in the Sun is the critically acclaimed film starring
Academy Award® winner Javier Bardem (No Country for Old
Men). An international sensation, the film won 37 awards
including five Goya Awards for Best Film, Best Director
(Fernando León de Aranoa, Barrio), Best Lead Actor (Bardem),
Best New Actor (Jose Angel Egido, Hotel Tivoli) and Best
Supporting Actor (Luis Tosar, Miami Vice). USA Today
declared Mondays in the Sun “a bittersweet character study”
and the Minneapolis Star-Tribune called it “a small,
intimate film that moves viewers with its passion.”
Presented in its original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85.1,
this Meridian Collection DVD transfer was enhanced using the
MTI Digital Restoration System to reduce the appearance of
dirt, scratches and other film impurities. It includes
deleted scenes, audio commentary, storyboard to scene
comparisons and a making-of featurette.
SYNOPSIS: This
insightful and heartbreaking drama follows five unemployed
shipyard workers who spend their days drinking in a local
bar and riding the ferry back and forth, to no destination.
Led by the cocky Santa (Javier Bardem), a lonely former
ladies' man, the men may be down on their luck but still
manage to encourage each other to search for work, love and
the strength to hope for better days.
