REVIEW: Redline
08/20/07

If the movie making process
had a set of rules, they would go some like this: The first
rule of movie making is never let the second unit director
direct a movie. The second rule of movie making is never let
a stunt coordinator direct a movie. This movie violates both
of these rules. Andy Cheng a former second unit director and
stunt coordinator directs this lame rip-off of "The Fast and
The Furious". The movie, produced as a vanity project by
Daniel Sadek, a filthy rich real estate mogul, is an unholy
mess that has zero plot and offers even less entertainment
value.
The plot, which is nonexistent, revolves around three
millionaires played by Eddie Griffin, Tim Matheson and Angus
Macfadyen who enjoy betting on illegal races using their own
collection of exotic sports cars. Among the racers is
Natasha (Nadia Bjorlin) whose dad died in a car crash during
a race. In the final race, Natasha must face the man who her
dad died racing.
Redline is purely about the cars and watching these
expensive machines zoom by the camera. The acting by Tim
Matheson and Angus Macfadyen, pretty respectable Hollywood
talent, is average, but nothing special. The only good thing
in this movie is Eddie Griffin as he delivers a bunch of
good one-liners. The movie also features some pretty good
racing sequences, but not enough to save this dead dog of a
movie. The editing is atrocious and after a while you get
sick of looking at close-up after close-up of cars changing
gears. This movie elevates “The Fast and The Furious”, a
movie I didn’t enjoy either, to the level of passable.
Daniel Sadek took the tagline of this movie "Fear Nothing.
Risk Everything" to heart when he put up 25 million of his
own money to finance this movie. So do yourself a favor and
disregard this movie, unless you have a passion for
high-speed race car movies
